Sara is a founding member of The Aiden Matthew Ripple Effect Foundation. She lost her son, Aiden, to suicide on Monday, April 19, 2021. She wanted to create a scholarship foundation for students and educators that would encourage activism and advocacy regarding mental health illness and suicide. Her goal is to provide support to our youth to assist them in advocating for their own mental health needs. In addition, she understands the gaps in the education system and wants to empower educators with knowledge on how to support the mental health needs of themselves and their students.
As a bereaved parent, Sara, is navigating an extremely personal grief journey as it directly relates to the suicide loss of her youngest son. As an educator, she has a deep desire to help others within her community to bring awareness and acceptance surrounding the needs of mental health awareness and suicide prevention especially for our youth.
Through TAMREF website and events, Sara plans to share her grief experiences as a way for others to seek understanding and work towards eliminating the stigma surrounding suicide. She wants to create a welcoming, affirming, and safe environment for others to be able to share own experiences and journey.
